South Yorkshire Whippet Club Seminars

The South Yorkshire Whippet Club occasionally hold seminars for aspiring judges of the breed, or people just wanting to develop their knowledge on the breed. The day begins with refreshments, in a welcoming atmosphere, and then a general talk on the breed is undertaken by one of our qualified assessors (usually Miss Editha Newton) We use a model dog, and relating back to the breed standard, and elaborating on the finer points of the breed, an in depth talk is given explaining each part of a Whippet from head to tail. The physical structure of a Whippet is explained, and then the functionality - explaining movement, soundness, and temperament, as dictated by the breed standard. We then split attendees into groups, and the groups move round 4 or 5 tables with qualified Judges from our committee each with model dogs. Attendees can then go over each dog, and ask any questions they have, and further hints, tips, and knowledge shared by the qualified judges. After this group session, we usually break for lunch, and those not taking the assessment can leave with a certificate ot attendance. The hands on assessment will then take place in the afternoon, for those aspiring judges requiring it. If you have already started judging Whippets at Open Show level and are wanting/needing an assessment, please contact our secretary, as the sooner we know we have people wanting an assessment, the sooner we will plan our next seminar. Please contact our secretary Mr Richard Mason for further details or to book onto our seminar; [email protected]
